This my long overdue Overwatch fanart. I mainly used Renaud Galand's Reinhardt sculpt as reference, especially for the hair, while still taking some liberties (sad excuse for not nailing it) : https://www.artstation.com/artwork/LJoeP

I wanted to try Forger, a sculpting app on Ipad, with a bust. It's pretty cool for sketching, but I don't see myself sculpting a full character on it. I then exported it to zbrush for polishing, then I decided to make the top of the armor for rendering and I ended up modeling the full torso for a potential 3d print. Finally, Substance Painter for textures and Arnold for rendering. Trying new stuff like volumetric lights and dust particles (some are 3d, some were added in post)

New render done in 2021. I have never been really happy with the original render, I just wanted to be over with it, so I botched the lighting and moved on. This new one is closer to what I had in mind. And I went full 4K while I was at it

Old render from 2019. Many things wrong with it. The lighting, trying to be sophisticated, ended up looking terrible. The hair shading is bad, the skin is too shinny and looks orange, too many blown up highlights. Not happy with it

I started with a sketch in Forger on Ipad. Pretty cool app, takes time to get used to, but you can sculpt on the go.

The armor was modeled the old fashion way in maya. Only the damages were sculpted (also trying to match the original, down to the scratch)

Yeah I modeled all that too and it's not visible in the final image

Nearly as much time went into sculpting the hair as in modeling the whole armor

Even if the beard and mustache hide most of his face, I wanted it to look good and make sense. I used the younger Reinhardt as reference
